Geocache Description:

This cache is located in a small wooded park area on the perimeter of the Lytham Primary Care Centre car park. The area is open to the public and accessible by car or on foot 24/7.

It is in my hometown of Lytham. which is situated on the mouth of the Ribble Estuary. The cache is only 150m from my home GZ so I thought it appropriate to locate a nice small cache close by. It is also big enough to stash small trackables.

The cache is hidden near to a small bench seat where there is a small garden and seaside figurine who looks directly toward where the cache is. I often start and finish my training runs from this location as I can do some nice stretches on the bench seat. I deduce the public garden area was created in memory of Doctor Donald Reid who served the Lytham Hospital 1945 to 1982.

The cache itself is a small container, well hidden and big enough to hold a small trackable. I have placed a trackable inside that I found in Edinburgh that is on a mission to visit harbours.

The area is overlooked from the nearby buildings so please use stealth to find and replace. The bench seat is used frequently by staff from the Clinic or Care Centre probably on their rest break so you may need to time your retreival!

The car park can be very busy on weekdays. You can park free short-stay and there is a nice cafe open in the Primary Care Centre that is open to the public. Evenings and weekends it is usually totally empty so the best time to visit.

Happy Hunting and Enjoy!

Lytham Hospital - History

The site now accommodates two local GP Surgeries under the name Lytham Primary Care Centre. The two GP surgeries are Holland House and Fernbank that were located at other sites but were relocated fairly recently under one roof in a brand new building on this site.

In addition there is Lytham Hospital that did care for in-patients as a psyciatric hospital up until a few years ago but is now only open as a weekday out-patients clinic.

I gather there may have been an older hospital built on this site going back further in time. This may well have been demolished at some point. Dr Donald Reid must have been a prominent Dr serving the old hospital up to his retirement or maybe death in 1982. I have done some research on Lytham Hospital and would welcome any further information on its history.
