Geocache Description:

17 September 2022, 08:00 - 10:00

You are invited!City of Garland Logo Image

Visit Historic Garland, Texas and celebrate Garland history with us on Saturday, September 17, 2022!

Garland is a beautiful community in North Texas, full of history. Now the City is joining the world of geocaching.

The first geocache was hidden on May 3, 2000. More than 3 million geocaches have been published all over the world. There are hundreds in Garland and we're releasing dozens more during the Garland GeoTour Launch Party. Come and join us!

Garland is the 13th largest city in Texas by population, but still has that small-town feel. We're in the throes of revamping our downtown square but there's plenty of parking and plenty of shops and restaurants to visit while you're here.

We'll hold our launch event at The Granville Arts Center starting at 8am. It's early, so there will be coffee, food and fellowship. Everybody gets a goodie bag. Plenty of parking is available. Kids are welcome, and those who are totally new to geocaching are especially welcome.

  • 8:00 am - We'll have refreshments available.
  • 8:40 am - We've asked Garland's mayor and a few other local notables to welcome our attendees to Garland and tell you a little bit about what you'll find while in our fair city. A couple of local geocachers will also take the microphone and share some of their most unforgettable geocaching adventures.
  • 9:00 am - We'll discuss the rules and the Garland History GeoTour passport, and impart any last-minute tidbits of advise and useful information that might help you on your journey. And we'll answer any questions at this time.
  • 9:40 am - Gather to take a group photo. See "additional waypoints" for the exact location.
  • 10:00 am - Geocaches are released. Scatter and don't forget your passport!
  • 3:00 pm - We'll be gathering at Intrinsic Smokehouse and Brewery for some great food and brews. Those who have earned enough points can turn in their passports for our amazing geocoin. If you're not there yet, join us anyway. (You can finish later.) We will have several door prizes and lots of fun swapping stories about the amazing Garland GeoTour!
  • 7:00 pm - Party's over! Go home and sleep it off. Be sure to come back and get any of our caches you weren't able to grab on launch day, and tell your friends about the Garland History GeoTour.

Adventure Lab

The Garland GeoTour contains a Lab Cache. If you're not familiar with Adventure Labs, it requires a separate app that you can download on your phone. You will log in with the same credentials you use for geocaching.com. Adventure Labs take you to several locations along a theme and some, including ours, include a bonus physical geocache at the end. Click the appropriate link below to download the app to your phone. Note that the Lab Cache isn't required unless you want to complete the entire GeoTour to get the digital souvenir.

Community Celebration Events

This Event is part of a limited release of Community Celebration Events to celebrate 20 years of geocaching. Geocachers hosted events between May 2, 2020 and December 31, 2022. Learn more about Community Celebration Events on the Geocaching Blog.
