On my exercise jaunts up Parihaka, I have often spotted a big flock of Californian Quail in the pull off area opposite here Maybe you will see them too.
Another quick park and grab before reaching the summit carpark. Best parking will be opposite this cache, on the eastern side of Memorial Drive, i.e. when heading downhill, but if you were careful, you could pull over going uphill too. Just watch out for the big log segment.. !!
Cache is another large bison, hanging.
