A series of caches meant to provide a little information about my favourite equine - the donkey:-) All of the donkeys in the photos on the cache pages can be found living nearby at The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada.
Donkeys spend the majority of their waking hours alternating between feeding and periods of rest. They need multiple small meals, or low level continuous feeding throughout the day due to their small stomach capacity. Every donkey will have different dietary needs depending on their age and medical condition, however most agree that the basis of a healthy donkey diet is forage: grass, browse or hay. Leaving a donkey to graze on lush green pastures consisting of vegetation that is too rich for their systems can be dangerous to their health and may result in chronic laminitis. This inflamatory disease of the laminar tissue, which connects the coffin bone in the hoof to the inside of the hoof wall, can result in lameness and extreme pain.

Pansy (1985-2017) and Sable (2000-2017) enjoy some hay from their hanging hay bag.
