Forest Hill Shopping Centre, known affectionately as “Forry” to the locals, opened in 1964 and is amongst the oldest shopping centres in Victoria.
Back in the 60s, there was no concern over the rather dubious use of an Aboriginal hunter and boomerangs as the centre’s logos, accompanied by the slogan “Happy Hunting”!
Attitudes change, the logos and slogan are gone, and the centre now promotes the following acknowledgment statement: “We respectfully acknowledge the Wurundjeri people, the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the Country on which Forest Hill Chase resides. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging and acknowledge the continuing connection to land, sea and community.”

In its early days as a shopping strip, the centre included one of the first supermarkets in Australia and was famous for its climbing Rocket Ship (since relocated to Syndal South Primary School).

After its various iterations over the past 60 years, one of the most recent additions to the centre is a revamped entertainment and dining precinct on level three. And now also a cache.
🙂 Happy Hunting!
Replacing cache advice
Please enjoy this cache, but please don’t replace it upside-down as this lets water in. Thank you.
