Mary Anderson-> Ștergătorul de parbriz
Industria auto este dominată de bărbaţi, dar reprezentantele sexului feminin au oferit soluţii spectaculoase pentru îmbunătăţirea unor soluţii tehnice. Un lucru indispensabil în dotarea maşinilor este ştergătorul de parbriz. Puţini ştiu că acest dispozitiv, denumit iniţial „dispozitiv curăţat fereastra pentru maşini electrice şi alte vehicule”, a fost inventat de Mary Anderson (1866-1953) pentru care obţine brevetul nr. 743.801 în 10 noiembrie 1903.
Ideea necesităţii unui astfel de dispozitiv a încolţit în mintea inventatoarei cu prilejul unei excursii la New York, care a observat că într-o zi cu lapoviţă şoferii de maşini cu cai erau nevoiţi să deschidă ferestrele pentru a vedea drumul din faţa lor. Pentru a veni în întâmpinarea acestui neajuns, Anderson concepe un braţ oscilant, terminat cu o lamă de cauciuc, operat cu ajutorul unui levier din interiorul vehiculului. Mulţi conducători auto au fost ezitanţi faţă de noua invenţie, fiind convinşi că noul dispozitiv ar fi distras atenţia de la condus. Pentru majoritatea vehiculelor, ştergătorul de parbriz devine un echipament standard începând cu anul 1916.

The car industry is dominated by men, but the female representatives have offered spectacular solutions to improve technical solutions. An essential thing in equipping cars is the windshield wiper. Few know that this device, originally called the "window cleaner for electric cars and other vehicles," was invented by Mary Anderson (1866-1953) for which she obtained patent no. 743,801 on November 10, 1903.
The idea of such a device popped into the mind of the inventor on a trip to New York, who noticed that one day in a sleet the drivers of horse-drawn carriages had to open the windows to see the road in front of them. To address this shortcoming, Anderson designed an oscillating arm, finished with a rubber blade, operated with a lever inside the vehicle. Many drivers were hesitant about the new invention, believing that the new device would have distracted them from driving. For most vehicles, the windshield wiper has become standard equipment since 1916.
