Zippers are also known as a fly, or a zip, zip fastner, clasp locker. Commonly used device for binding the edges of an opening in fabric or other flexible material. Originally patented in 1851 by Elias Howe, Whitcomb Judson, revised it in 1893 and used extensively on shoes. Finally in 1913, Gideon Sundback patented what we today know as the zipper. He opened Lightning Fastener Co in St. Catharines, Ontario.
