Nell’isola Tiberina una palla di cannone sparata dai francesi distrusse le mura della chiesa di San Bartolomeo all’Isola e si incastrò sulla parete opposta. Vanta un diametro di 14 cm. Partita dalla via Aurelia, la cannonata si abbattè contro la chiesa, attraversando il muro e finendo la sua corsa sull’altare della Cappella della Vergine. Il tutto avvenne in un momento in cui la chiesa era affollatissima, ma fortunatamente non ci furono vittime (ecco perché “palla del miracolo”). Chiesa di San Bartolomeo all’Isola. Il proiettile è stato murato nella parete sinistra della Cappella della Vergine e ad esso è stata aggiunta una epigrafe commemorativa, tradotta:
"Questo proiettile di guerra,
lanciato contro i nemici dalla via Aurelia
alla fine di Giugno 1849
e, sfondato il muro anteriore, qui entrato,
per aiuto di Maria salvatrice
si fermò inaspettatamente sull'altare,
e comunica ai posteri l'incolumità dei Francescani".

A cannonball fired by the French destroyed the walls of the church of San Bartolomeo on Tiber Island, got stuck on the opposite wall. It boasts a diameter of 14 cm.
The cannon, fired from the Via Aurelia, shot hit the church, passed through the wall, and ended its run on the altar of the Chapel of the Virgin. All this took place when the church was very crowded, but fortunately, there were no victims (that is why the “miracle ball”).
The bullet is still in the left wall of the Chapel of the Virgin, and a commemorative epigraph was added to it, translated:
"This war bullet,
launched against the enemies from the Via Aurelia
at the end of June 1849
and, having broken through the front wall, entered here,
with the help of Mary the Savior
stopped unexpectedly on the altar,
and communicates the safety of the Franciscans to posterity".
