When I was a kid I loved the Three Billy Goats Gruff and the Troll stories so the idea of placing a ‘Troll Cache’ appeals to me.
I thought there weren’t many possible places in the areas I regularly traverse but it’s a case of the more you know a place the less you see. I’ve walked over this bridge thousands of times over the years and it just didn’t occur to me that a Troll lived here……until now.
The Bridge

This is the 4th bridge across Berry's Creek at this spot.
In the late 19th Century a log bridge was built across the creek to allow residents from Greenwich access to the newly opened railway line at Wollstonecraft Station.
In 1906 John Beencke a local resident who had constructed several local buildings built a wooden trestle bridge across from Greendale Street to Smoothey Park. This bridge remained in use for nearly 60 years. At some unrecorded date a concrete bridge was built across the valley down at creek level and still remains today.
As the wooden bridge was beginning to rot and needed replacing local residents were polled and eventually after much argument this lower site at the end of St Giles Avenue was chosen. This bridge was opened in 1964.

Note to all Geocachers -
Remember if you have not signed the physical log inside the cache container you have not successfully found the cache and your online log may be deleted. There was a pencil inside the container at the time of publication but these can go missing so it is essential you carry your own writing stick. Sadly no photo logs are acceptable.
