The Walter Wright Pioneer Village in Dawson Creek
Mr Team Wingnut was very involved in the Historical Society in Dawson Creek for many years so placing a geocache that highlights this wonderful outdoor museum is particularly fitting. You will not need to enter the village to get this cache. It is easily available from the parking lot and should be fairly easy to get without being too noticeable. Do still watch out for muggles!
Walter Wright had a passion to preserve the pioneer history of the Peace Region. Walter, the South Peace Historical Society, volunteers and local service clubs built the village as a street, complete with boardwalks, to represent a bygone era. The village is a collection of original buildings carefully moved from the surrounding area as well as a complement of replica structures to display artifacts. The collection began in the 1970's with the first village being setup on the other side of town near the airport. Along with the buildings the village collected many other artifacts, vintage vehicles, and farm machinery over the years in order to better tell the story of our past. The village was moved to its current location in time for the 50th anniversary celebration of the construction of the Alaska Highway (Rendevouz '92). Volunteers continue to be a driving force to keep the village in good condition and to continue to grow the collection. Please take the time to explore and learn more about what life was like in the early years of Dawson Creek area.
Congratulations to dtmdlm on their FTF!
