Portofino is one of the most romantic places in Italy. A breathtaking landscape, spectacular views of the coast and sea, amazing food and wine. 

It is one of the villages symolising Liguria and tourism in the Mediterranean. Famous all over the world and all to be seen: here is Portofino, a sea village built around a bay with high and colourful houses set against the dock and the famous little square.
Here the sea that reflects the colours of the houses, the sky and the vegetation entertains the yachts, boats and ferries that arrive and set out again. All in perfect harmony: this is Portofino. Reach it by sea on the boats that frequently set out from the sea promenade at Rapallo and Santa Margherita Ligure, or from Camogli and Genoa. Walk through the village and among the boutiques selling famous brands.

Things to see:

• The medieval castle Castello Brown on the top of the hill with a charming view over the Gulf of Portofino and the harbor. The castle dating from the 16th century is surrounded by a Mediterranean garden featuring a wealth of flowers and rose-gardens and offers a great view of Portofino. This location is frequently used for marriages and photoshoots.

• Museo del Parco, a terraced sculpture garden near the castle overlooking the harbor and filled with modern artworks, open June to September.

• Church of San Giorgio lies almost in the center of the promontory and was built during 12th century but rebuilt after the damages of the last war. A tombstone reminds that St. George's relics were brought by the Crusaders in the eleventh century.

• Abbey of San Fruttuoso built in the 11th century is situated on the other side of the peninsula, reached from Portofino by boat or by a 2-hour walk. Perfect place for a romantic lunch. Nice beach and crystal clear waters.

How to get to Portofino:

The 5 kilometer walk from Santa Margherita to Portofino is a worthwhile venture and takes about an hour. The footpath is essentially a sidewalk on the water side of the very narrow winding road. Each turn reveals a new scenery, whether villas, small beach clubs, restaurant or open water.

E’ uno dei luoghi simbolo della Liguria e del turismo nel mediterraneo. Cose da vedere:

• Il castello medievale Castello Brown in cima alla collina con una vista incantevole sul golfo di Portofino e sul porto. Il castello risalente al XVI secolo è circondato da un giardino mediterraneo ricco di fiori e roseti e offre una splendida vista su Portofino. Questa location è spesso utilizzata per matrimoni e servizi fotografici.

• Museo del Parco, un giardino di sculture terrazzato vicino al castello che si affaccia sul porto e ricco di opere d'arte moderna, aperto da giugno a settembre.

• La chiesa di San Giorgio si trova quasi al centro del promontorio ed è stata costruita nel XII secolo ma ricostruita dopo i danni dell'ultima guerra. Una lapide ricorda che le reliquie di San Giorgio furono portate dai crociati nell'XI secolo.

• L'abbazia di San Fruttuoso, costruita nell'XI secolo, si trova dall'altra parte della penisola, raggiungibile da Portofino in barca o con una passeggiata di 2 ore. Luogo perfetto per un pranzo romantico. Bella spiaggia e acque cristalline.

Come arrivare a Portofino:

La passeggiata di 5 chilometri da Santa Margherita a Portofino è una passeggiata che vale la pena fare e dura circa un'ora. Il sentiero pedonale a lato strada è sospeso sul mare e gode di una meravigliosa vista. Ogni curva rivela un nuovo scenario, che si tratti di ville, piccoli stabilimenti balneari, ristoranti o acque libere. Si può raggiungere anche in macchina, autobus o battello.
