Welcome to "Monopoly" Mayhem - CARW2022
**THIS CACHE IS NOT AT THE POSTED COORDINATES**
1. This cache has been placed for the CARW event with the intention that it not be located prior to 09:00 hours Saturday March 5, 2022.
2. Should you hunt and find this cache before the event start, it will not count for the event, and FTF points are only valid as of 09:00 hours March 5th.
Monopoly is a boardgame that was very popular when I was growing up and "I believe" holds several distinctions to this day...For example- It was considered among the most popular games for families to play while also being considered the most likely to result in a family ...disagreement. It also has more spinoffs that any other game that I am aware of with over 300 versions related to different cities, or fantasy scenarios.
This cache is based on a game I recently played. You dont need to buy the game or play it yourself, you simply need to follow along and answer the questions at the end. The cache page holds all the information you will require. A picture of the board is found in the image Gallery. I set the difficulty higher because...well...following along may prove simple for some but complicated for most.
Every player begins on GO. I will advise the dice roll for each player and any actions taken. I will not advise the square landed on(but the actions may give it away), nor will I advise the value of any FIXED costs. But I will advise the value of all variable costs. for example: if someone lands on Boardwalk and the owner doesnt own the set then the FIXED rent is $50 and Ill simply state "...and pays the rent due", but if someone lands on waterworks and rent is determined by a roll then both the roll and the multiplier, values on cards will be given. I will make no mention of GO unless it is on a card so you will need to keep track of that on your own.
Rules
This game is based on classic rules with a couple noted exceptions.
Exceptions
-Free Parking - in original rules no action is taken. for this game Taxes, and fees such as $50 for getting out of jail are accumulated and given out to those who land on FREE PARKING. I will advise the value given as it is not fixed.
GO - in original rules you get 200 for either passing or landing on GO. For this game you get double (400) for landing on it but 200 for passing it. These are FIXED values.
INCOME TAX- in original rules you paid either $200 or 10% of your net wealth. For this game it will be a $200 FIXED value
AUCTIONS- We have no auctions. (i'm not that cruel)
Basic Rules
The Goal of the Game is to be the player with the MONOPOLY on the game by bankrupting your opponents.
Players each begin with $1500 and begin the game on the GO space.
Each player, in turn, rolls the 2 dice, moves their token the required number of spaces, and takes actions based on the the requirement for the space they land on. If they roll doubles then, after their turn, they take another turn instead of passing the dice to the next player. If they roll doubles 3 times in a row, then they move their token directly to jail instead of to the normal square and end their turn. Any time a player is sent to jail they do not pass go so they do not get 200. After a player has completed their turn the dice are passed to the next player.
Chance and Community Chest - Are spaces that require the player to pick up a card and follow the instructions on the card. Most cards have immediate instructions but a "GET OUT OF JAIL FREE CARD" is saved until a player chooses to use it. If you land on one of these the card will be read to you, and there are options such as to buy or not to buy a property I will advise what to do. but if there is only 1 option (ie. no action if you own it or pay double if you dont) I will expect you to understand what needs to be done.
Jail - There is no consequence to landing on the JAIL space through normal dice rolls. Players who do this are considered to be "JUST VISITING" in which case no actions are taken. Anyone sent to jail must remain there until they either roll a double or pay their $50 fine. A player may choose to try to roll doubles for up to 3 rounds or pay $50 before rolling. If you dont pay and fail to roll doubles you sit in jail and contemplate your actions. If the player fails a third attempt at doubles then it is mandatory to immediately pay the $50 fine and then move the number indicated on the dice. Rent and normal property actions are still valid for people in jail. If you Roll doubles to get out of Jail you do NOT take another turn as you would in normal gameplay.
Properties - can be traded, bought, sold or improved. you can only buy properties by either landing on the space or striking a deal with another player who owns that property. You can improve properties by adding houses or hotels. To make improvements you must first own all properties for that Set, and then evenly build up to 4 houses followed by a hotel. (sets are color coded below). If you own a complete set but have not made any improvements the rent is double the individual property rent value. Even build means you cannot add a second house to a property until all properties from that set already have a first house. after you have 4 houses purchaseing a 5th house value turns the 4 houses into a hotel. A hotel is the highest possible improvement.
Selling and morgaging properties - if you require more cash to pay a bill you can begin by selling improvements at their purchase value, then if you need more money you can morgage properties. morgaging a property means you cannot collect income from it until it is unmorgaged. Morgage values are half the purchase value so if you bought a property for 200 and need to morgage it you will get 100 for morgaging that property. when you unmorgage a property you pay back the morgage value +10%. so in this case you would pay 110 to unmorgage this property.
Bankrupcy- if a player cannot build the cash to pay a rent by selling improvements or morgaging properties then they must declare bankrupcy and their assets are given to the person they owe including all properties, and they are out of the game.

**Remember** Rent for properties is double the normal value if you own the complete set but have not yet made any improvements
The four railroads (Reading Railroad, Pennsylvania Railroad, B&O Railroad, and Short Line) are each worth 200. Rent is based on the number of railroads that player owns: 25 for one, 50 for two, 100 for three, and 200 for all four. Each railroad has a mortgage value of 100.
The two utilities (Electric Company and Water Works) are each worth 150. If a player owns either, rent is equal to the amount shown on the dice times 4. If a player owns both, rent is equal to the amount shown on the dice times 10. Each utility has a mortgage value of 75.
Income tax will always be 200. Luxury tax will always be 100
OK now on to the game
The 4 players are represented by their tokens. in order of game play they are (HORSE), (CANNON), (BATTLESHIP), (DOG)
