This cache is a small lock and lock container that's located at a great viewpoint perched above the Elbow River. Expect a bit of an adventurous on-trail hike, covering a round trip hike of 4 kilometers and an elevation gain of 100 meters. If you're visiting in the winter, you will be forced to park further back near Elbow Falls which will add about 4 km of easy on-highway hiking.
The Elbow River Viewpoint:
I have to admit that I didn't think this hike was going to be too exciting. Sure, it's a nice hike beside the Elbow River, but it didn't really give that WOW factor punch until we got up to the viewpoint where this cache is hidden! It sure is a nice spot and I'm sure you'll agree. The trail can be a little sporty at times, passing through a small boulderfield and even a couple slightly exposed sections depending on which trail you take. It's probably best to follow up the ridge a little while (waypoint for ridge trail provided) then drop back down to the river. Doing this will help you avoid a couple particularly tricky trail sections. In general, the trail was better than I thought it would be - it was nicely cleared of fallen logs which made for some pleasant hiking. Keep in mind that the winter gate is closed from Dec 1 to May 15, but the extra 2km each way along the road makes for a nice warm-up and cool-down!
Enjoy!
