Questa cache è nascosta nei pressi della piazza Castello a Marostica, meglio nota come Piazza degli Scacchi.
Il contenitore è di dimensioni molto piccole quindi portate con voi una penna per firmare il logbook. La piazza normalmente è molto affollata: usate la massima prudenza nell'effettuare le ricerche e nel riposizionare la cache dopo averla trovata.
This cache is hidden near Piazza Castello in Marostica, better known as Piazza degli Scacchi.
The container is very small so bring a pen with you to sign the logbook. The square is normally very crowded: use caution in your searches and while repositioning the cache after you have found it.
La partita di Scacchi
La piazza degli scacchi è una delle maggiori attrazioni turistiche di Marostica, dato che a partire dal 1923, ogni due anni a settembre, vi si tiene la partita a scacchi più famosa d'Italia.
L'iniziativa di questa partita a scacchi giocata nella piazza centrale e con personaggi viventi fu di due studenti universitari, Mirko Vucetich e Francesco Pozza, che nel 1923 la proposero e realizzarono quale rievocazione storica. Circa 600 figuranti in costume medioevale, cavalli, armati, sbandieratori, guitti e sputafuoco, dame e gentiluomini, fanno da cornice al gioco degli scacchi che rappresenta la sfida di Rinaldo d'Angarano e Vieri da Vallonara.
All'epoca Marostica era alleata di Venezia. Due cavalieri, Rinaldo d'Angarano e Vieri da Vallonara, si innamorarono entrambi della bella Lionora, figlia del governatore di Marostica, e per lei si sfidarono a duello. Il governatore, che non voleva inimicarsi nessuno dei due, decise che avrebbe dato in sposa la figlia a colui che avesse vinto una partita "al nobile giuoco degli scacchi" tenuta con pezzi viventi nella piazza d’armi. Lo sconfitto sarebbe diventato lo stesso suo parente sposando la sorella del governatore, Oldrada.
Non potendo riprodurre le mosse originali dei due contendenti, andate perdute, si è scelto di rifarsi a classicissime degli scacchi, ovvero due partite note come l'Immortale e la Sempreverde.

The game of Chess
The chess square is one of the major tourist attractions of Marostica, since since 1923, every two years in September, the most famous chess game in Italy is held here.
The initiative of this chess game played in the central square and with living characters was of two university students, Mirko Vucetich and Francesco Pozza, who in 1923 proposed and realized it as a historical re-enactment. About 600 figures in medieval costume, horses, armed men, flag-wavers, walkers and fire-breathing, ladies and gentlemen, frame the game of chess that represents the challenge of Rinaldo d'Angarano and Vieri da Vallonara.
At the time Marostica was an ally of Venice. Two knights, Rinaldo d'Angarano and Vieri da Vallonara, both fell in love with the beautiful Lionora, daughter of the governor of Marostica, and challenged each other to a duel for her. The governor, who did not want to antagonize either of them, decided that he would give his daughter in marriage to the one who had won a game of "the noble game of chess" held with living pieces in the parade ground. The loser would become his own relative by marrying the governor's sister, Oldrada.
Not being able to reproduce the original moves of the two contenders, which have been lost, it was decided to refer to very classic chess, or two games known as the Immortal and the Evergreen.
