#29 The Dogliest Detective and The Missing Ticket Totals

Toby trotted into the cafeteria with his brown bag lunch, but stopped suddenly when he spotted the usually gregarious "Pam the receptionist" sitting at the corner table and staring out the window. Toby plopped down across the table from her without asking.

"What will you trade me for a piece of cheesecake?" Toby quickly asked to force a smile. Pam was famously careful about what she ate, so she knew he what he was up to.

"It has been a terrible day." Pam said. "Miss Havisham stopped by this morning to drop off her ticket sales for the charity event. She sold all 100 of her tickets and dropped off this big envelope full of money, which totaled exactly $1,000. However, she did not write down how many of the tickets were orders for the $1, $20 or $50 items."

"When I called the charity, they were happy for all the money raised. But then they turned on me and said all the money raised would be wasted if I didn't tell them exactly how much needed to be ordered. I asked Captain McGruff if he would call Miss Havisham and ask if she could remember what was ordered, but he just yelled at me and told me not to bother her. He told me it was MY job to fix it."

Toby listened attentively, however, he also could not keep his eyes from wandering back to the ticket sale envelope. When Pam had finished venting her frustrations, Toby convinced her to try "just a taste" of his cheesecake, prompting her to get a clean fork from the cafeteria supplies.

They eventually finished eating and Pam packed up her lunch items. Her eyes widened when she saw the ticket sale envelope was now filled in with the number of each ticket type ordered. Toby just said "I hope your afternoon will be better than your morning" before trotting back to his office.
