In the 1996, as part of “Action Plan Negev” KKL-JNF and the Mekorot water company with the generous assistance of Jewish communities in the USA and Australia, constructed a system of reservoirs along the B’sor River. The plan was to capture the winter floodwaters and use them to recharge the groundwater in the area. This floodwater could then be used to irrigate local farmers’ fields.
Dams were built in the riverbed to help halt the erosion caused by the swift flow of the flood waters. If you look down from this site you can see one of the dams. They are designed to allow 22,000 cubic meters of water per hour to flow down the nahal, when the water flow is greater than this it fills the Lower Rehovot reservoir and is then pumped up into the Upper Rehovot and B’sor reservoirs.
