Si tratta di una specie particolarmente rilevante, essendo uno degli Anfibi italiani più rari. Il Pelobate fosco viene anche chiamato “Rospo della vanga” a causa delle sue abitudini fossorie.
Questo anfibio è considerato in Pericolo (EN) dalla Lista Rossa della IUCN e risulta come specie prioritaria della Direttiva Habitat.

Pelobate
It is a particularly relevant species, being one of the rarest Italian amphibians. The dusky Pelobate is also called "Spade Toad" due to its fossorial habits.
This amphibian is considered Endangered (EN) by the IUCN Red List and is a priority species of the Habitats Directive.
