Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates.

Are puzzles driving you crazy? Do you need a confidence booster, an easy win? Well, here’s something that may appeal to you… A series of EASY puzzles that do not require a special skill set or degree in computer science. A clear mind, positive attitude, and sense of humor are the only things you will need to have a little puzzle solving fun. Enjoy!

To determine numbers for the final coordinates, you must solve 6 problems first and then use your answers to complete a simple substitution cipher. Easy step-by-step instructions are provided. Before we begin, I suggest trying a few warm-up exercises to sharpen your critical thinking skills:

Warm-up Exercise 1: Connect the Dots.

Warm-Up Exercise 2: Find Your Way Through a Maze.

Are you all warmed up and ready to work on the puzzle now?

Problem 1: Spell the word “CANINE.”
__ __ __ __ __ __

Problem 2: Word Search. Find a hidden word by looking across, down, diagonally, forwards, or backwards.

__ __ __

Problem 3: This drawing is incomplete. Can you guess what this animal is by examining the incomplete drawing?

__ __ __

Problem 4: How many dog bowls do you count?

__ __ __

(Spell out your answer.)

Problem 5: Sudoku. Some of you may think this puzzle has gone to the dogs, so here is something a little different. Can you complete this partially-filled sudoku? What digit is missing?

__ __ __ __ __

(Spell out your answer. Hint: My dog ate my homework.)

Problem 6: Crossword. Okay, okay, we never really left the dog theme behind in the last problem. So, here’s a simple crossword to try with that in mind.

Using your answers to the above Problems (P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, and P6) and the substitution cipher below, the final coordinates can be determined, as follows:

P1: What is the first letter of your answer? __ __ __ __ __ __
P2: What is the first letter of your answer? __ __ __
P3: What is the third letter of your answer? __ __ __
P4: What is the first letter of your answer? __ __ __
P5: What is the first letter of your answer? __ __ __ __ __
P6: What is the letter the two words have in common? __ __ __ __ and __ __ __

Substitution cipher: C = 4, D = 2, G = 5, T = 1, E = 8, O = 9

N37 54.(P1)(P2)(P3) W122 37.(P4)(P5)(P6)

Puzzle Checksum:
For those that need that extra push across the finish line, the last five significant digits of the latitude are 54.425, and the last five significant digits of the longitude are 37.189. 🤫

To those geocachers who avoid puzzles because they find them too hard, don’t give up! Every dog has his day! And, when you solve this puzzle, feel free to stand up and shout at the top of your lungs, “Hot, Diggity Dog!”

This puzzle is the twelfth in a new series of EASY puzzles that I have placed on Mount Tamalpais. If you would like to solve and find some puzzle caches, and if you like easy to moderate hiking, then this series is for you! All of the puzzles in the series will be easy (intended to be 1-star), but the hides may bump up the difficulty ratings and the terrain ratings may vary some. All of the hides are micro or small, camouflage-taped pill bottles. This puzzle was inspired byTeam Yofa’s “EZ Ca$h” (GC19JA2).

Good luck, have fun, and as always, please return the cache as found or better!

Please note that West Ridgecrest Blvd. is open from 9:00 a.m. to sunset daily.

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.
