Geocache Description:

This is a virtual cache because of the level of muggles in the area.  It is not uncommon to see a few vehicles here and hunting around would be kind of suspicious.  It also, unfortunately, attracts garbage etc so a traditional cache is not ideal BUT it is an important historical area and a great view point of the Peace River Valley.  So if this is your first time here please try not to be distracted by the immediate surroundings and cast your eyes down the valley to the east and the past.  Then turn and focus of the valley to the west and the future.

This is a valley in transition.  The pastoral scene to the east is of bucolic fields and properties.  A reminder that this is an important micro ecosystem that has supported humans long before the pioneers.  The river and the fertile land of the peace drew people into the area to enjoy the riches that the natives of this land were already well aware of.

The view to the west is a view to the future.  There are certainly dividing views on these changes but the reality is that a massive hydroelectric dam is being built.  This will do two things undoubtly.  It will change the valley in both directions permanently.  It will also provide electricity.  Currently it changes how the valley looks daily.  A trip to Hudson Hope along Highway 29 (grab the caches along the way) continues to offer a constantly changing perspective at this time.

Through time this valley has seen change and it will continue to see change.  This cache encourages you to stretch your imagination to the past and how the river and its valley was used.

1- Name the 6 types of boats used on the Peace River before the railway and Alaska Highway provided easier means of reaching the area.

2-What was the speed limit on the Pacific Great Eastern Railway  bridge?

3-Where is the BC police barracks and jail building on display?

4- Please post a picture of yourself or a unique object of yours at the view point.

Thank you for stopping to visit our first virtual cache which we were honoured to be awarded! Team Wingnut

Congratulations DemetriusH on your FTF!
