Located in beautiful Downtown Brockville, come for a quick visit or spend the day, the Tunnel is free to tour! Please be aware that the Tunnel sometimes is closed for special events and is closed in winter for safety reasons. Don't let these restrictions stop you fron visiting.

History

Although little known, the oldest railway tunnel in Canada actually exists under the downtown core of Brockville, Ontario, the tranquil community located on the shores of the St Lawrence River at the eastern edge of The Thousand Islands.

The tunnel was built between 1854 and 1860 to allow the fledging Brockville and Ottawa Railway to connect the Brockville industrial waterfront area to the outlying areas lying between the St Lawrence and Ottawa rivers.

To Log This Cache:

1)  Post a picture of you standing at the South End(GZ) of the "tracks" (they are embossed into the concrete) showing the Tunnel Opening and the Flags above!

2)  If you are shy just take a picture of the Tunnel Opening and Flags above with some part of you (hand, foot, mascot, whatever) in the picture. Have some fun, mimic a train!
