Geocache Description:


A common field one day.  A field of honor forever.

On Tuesday morning, September 11, 2001, the U.S. came under attack when four commercial airliners were hijacked and used to strike targets on the ground. Nearly 3,000 people tragically lost their lives. Because of the actions of the 40 passengers and crew aboard one of the planes, Flight 93, the attack on the U.S. Capitol was thwarted by their personal sacrifice.

This permanent memorial was dedicated on September 10, 2011.

Please note: Many GPS units may recommend a different route, sometimes taking you to a closed entrance from the early days of the temporary memorial. There is only one entrance, and it is located on US Route 30 (Lincoln Highway).  All former entrances are closed.

As this National Memorial is a field of honor, be sure to follow all park rules! 

All park lands are closed to recreational activities such as kite flying, ball playing, model airplane, including drones and model rocket flying, Frisbee throwing, sunbathing, geocaching, or similar recreational activities.” (Closures and Public Use Limits). Special permission granted for this Virtual Geocache (follow all park rules to keep this active)! 

Photography and videography inside the visitor center is prohibited. Many items are on loan to the National Park Service and are protected under U.S. Copyright Law

DO NOT TAKE ANY PHOTOS OF THE EXHIBITS inside the Visitor Center!!

To claim a find 

1.  First, you will need to obtain a piece of paper or paper facsimile, write your caching name and the date, then post a log and attach one photo of it at either the Visitor Center (outside only), Memorial Plaza, Wall of Names, or Tower of Voices.

2.  Describe the markings on the sidewalk near the visitor center and the significance of the alignment.

3.  Tour the exhibits in the Visitor Center to find who said:  "There was just profound sadness. You know it's one of those moments where everything is going to change, but you don't know what the change is." and message me the answer (not a political figure).

4. (optional)  In your log honor these heroes by sharing your thoughts and feelings experienced during your visit.

Any logs with pictures inside the Visitor Center will be DELETED without notice!!
