Bob Waldmirewas born near Springfield, Il in 1945. His prolonged passionfor Rt 66 began in 1962 when his parents took the entire familyon a motoring trip to California via Rt 66. During that trip Bob fell in love with the Mother Road and all that it offered. Bob spent the rest of his life traveling along Rt 66 in either this school bus home, a 1964 Mustang or his 1972 VW van. Bob supported his nomactic and electic lifestyle by paintingand drawingfo clients along the Mother Road. His art works are famous worldwide and Pontiac is prodto have one pf Bob's Rt 66road maps painted inside the Rt 66 museum his as well as his 66ft long Rt 66 map mural.
Bob purchased this used 1966 school bus from New Mexico daler in 1982. His original plan for the bus was to clear out the interior and create a living space complrtr with bed, kitchen and work area. Among the images here you find the plan Bob used for designing his school bus home, the interior of the bus as decorated by Bob's mother and samples of the bus as it looked when Bob passwd away in 2009. the school bus home ultimatly included an array of solar panels for electricity, a rain collection system a comfortable back porch, a storage loft, a working toliet and a shower. the bus is filled with a collection of mementoes related to Bob's life on the Mother Road.
