Geocache Description:

OPTIONS TO LOG THIS CACHE:

1. Take a photo outside the premises with any distinguishing sign or feature that says 50,000 Silver Dollar along with a personal item (GPS, car, or keys) that would make the photo unique (a picture of yourself is welcomed but not required).

                                                                      - - - - - -  OR - - - - - - - -

2. Take a photo inside with the current number of silver dollars on the sign in the bar or a unique coin that you found and your cache name in any form (I could put my cache name "Onewheeler" next to a coin from "Spokane, WA" because that is where I am from).

Lincoln's 50,000 SIlver Dollar Bar is located on Interstate 90 in Haugan, MT

There's a motel, RV park, convenience store, casino, fuel stop, restaurant and gift shop.

The most interesting historical aspect are the family names, historical figures, and details of the coins themselves.

The bar was first owned by the Lincoln family 60 miles to the East near Alberton, MT and has recently been managed by a member of the family.

The original coin was placed by Gerry and Marie Lincoln at their bar in the 1950's and it became a local tradition to add coins.

In 1952, punching silver dollars into the bar was a way for the Lincoln's to promote their bar and it was popular due to that being the most common form of payment in Montana at the time.

The bar was originally called Cherry Springs Bar and did not see many tourists before the interstate came through the area.

The bar has changed from 2,000 to 6,000 to 8,000 to 10,000 and now 50,000 as significant amounts of coins have been added over the years to make a collection and record the number since 1953.

The bar moved to Haugan, MT in 1956 and slowly became a tourist destination as traffic used Interstate 90.

The oldest coin is an 1876 Liberty and more than 10,000 are real silver dollars that were last minted in 1935. All the antique dollars are Morgan or Peace dollars, and the more modern version is the Eisenhower dollar minted in the 1970's.

The most recent number was 81,947 and the bar adds 2,000 annually on average.
