Before 1974, Varosha was the modern tourist area of the Famagusta city. Its Greek Cypriot inhabitants fled during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, when the city of Famagusta came under Turkish control, and it has remained abandoned ever since.
Famagusta Viewpoint is located directly at the border on the Greek site. You can watch a 8 minutes-film, visit a small museum, climb the roof terrace and look at the ghost town, the noMansLand and the border with binoculars. The entrance fee is 2€ (including the binoculars). Unfortunately it is not possible to reach the roof terrace with a wheelchair, but it is possible to take a photo on the bottom and so log this cache.
To log this virtual cache:
Take a photo of you, your GPS device or your maskot with binoculars on the roof terrace of the viewpoint and add it to your log.
If you do not want to pay the entrance fee or if the viewpoint is closed, bring your own binoculars and take a photo in front of the viewpoint.
