Dieser Virtual führt euch an den Schrecksee, einen der schönsten Seen der Allgäuer Alpen. Er hat eine Fläche von 10,2 Hektar, einschließlich der 0,74 Hektar großen Insel.
Der Schrecksee liegt auf 1813 m in einem kesselartigen Hochtal, das umgrenzt wird von Knappenkopf, Kirchendach und Kälbelespitze im Osten, Kastenkopf und Lahnerkopf im Süden und Älpelekopf im Westen. In Richtung Nordwesten öffnet sich der Kessel: Nach einer kleinen Schwelle fällt das Gelände in einer Felsstufe um 300 Meter zur Taufersalpe ab. Der See liegt vollständig in Bayern, die Grenze zu Tirol verläuft knapp 300 Meter östlich des Sees am Kirchendachsattel.
Der Schrecksee wurde in den 1950er Jahren um 8 Meter aufgestaut, um ihn besser zur Energiegewinnung nutzen zu können. Die im Schrecksee gelegene kleine Insel entstand durch diese Aufstauung aus einer natürlichen Halbinsel. Das zugehörige Elektrizitätswerk liegt im Hintersteiner Tal unterhalb der Taufersalpe auf 938 m.
Es führen mehrere Wanderungen zum Schrecksee - von Hinterstein aus oder auch vom Tannheimer Tal in Tirol aus ab Vilsalpsee über den Jubiläumsweg.
Bitte beachten: Der Schrecksee befindet sich im Naturschutzgebiet Allgäuer Hochalpen. Die Wege dürfen auf keinen Fall verlassen werden, dies ist auch für diesen Virtual nicht notwendig. Campen, Biwakieren, Feuer machen, Müll hinterlassen und Drohnenflüge sind strengstens verboten! Die Einhaltung der Verbote wird von der Polizei kontrolliert. Der Respekt vor der Natur, vor den Gefahren, wie auch der Schönheit, sollte (nicht nur in den Bergen) an oberster Stelle stehen!

Um diesen Cache zu loggen, macht bitte ein Foto von euch, einem Zettel mit eurem Nicknamen oder eurem GPS mit dem Schrecksee im Hintergrund und fügt dieses Bild zu eurem Log hinzu. Gerne könnt ihr dieses Bild auch vom angegebenen Aussichtspunkt am Jubiläumsweg machen (der Aufstieg dorthin lohnt sich auf jeden Fall!). Das Bild ist Logbedingung! Logs ohne Foto werden kommentarlos gelöscht. Wir haben die Aufgabe bewusst einfach gehalten, damit ihr die Zeit nutzen könnt, um die wunderschöne Gegend zu genießen. Viel Spaß am Schrecksee!
This virtual takes you to the Schrecksee, one of the most beautiful lakes in the Allgäu Alps. It covers an area of 10.2 hectares, including the 0.74 hectare island.
The Schrecksee is situated at 1813 m in a blind valley, which is surrounded by Knappenkopf, Kirchendach and Kälbelespitze in the east, Kastenkopf and Lahnerkopf in the south and Älpelekopf in the west. Towards the northwest, the basin opens up: after a small threshold, the terrain drops in a rocky step by 300 meters to the Taufersalpe. The lake lies entirely in Bavaria, the border with Tyrol runs just about 300 meters east of the lake at the Kirchendachsattel.
Schrecksee was dammed up by 8 meters in the 1950s in order to be able to use it better for energy production. The small island located in Schrecksee was created from a natural peninsula by this artificial damming. The associated power station is located in the Hintersteiner valley below the Taufersalpe at 938 meters.
Several hikes lead up to the Schrecksee - from Hinterstein or also from the Tannheimer Tal in Tyrol from Vilsalpsee via the Jubiläumsweg.
Please note: The Schrecksee is located in the nature reserve Allgäuer Hochalpen. The trails must not be left under any circumstances, this is also not required for this Virtual. Camping, bivouacking, lighting fires, leaving trash and drone flights are strictly prohibited! The compliance with the prohibitions will be controlled by the police. Respect for nature, for the dangers, as well as the beauty, should be (not only in the mountains) in the uppermost priority!

To log this cache, please take a photo of yourself, a note with your nickname or your GPS with Schrecksee in the background and upload this picture to your log. You are also welcome to take this picture from the given lookout point on the Jubiläumsweg (the climb up there is definitely worth it!). The picture is a log condition! Logs without a image will be deleted without comment. We kept the task deliberately simple, so you can use your time to enjoy scenic landscapes. Have fun at Schrecksee!
