Geocache Description:


John Herschel Glenn from New Concord, Ohio, was married to Anne for 73 years and had two children, John David and Carolyn Ann.

 

John wore many hats!  He was an American Marine Corps Aviator, Engineer, Astronaut, Bussinessman, and Politician.

 

Before joining NASA Glenn was a distinguished fighter pilot in three wars receiving many Awards and Medals.  Glenn made the first supersonic transcontinental flight acrossed the United States.  On board his plane he had a camera that took the first continuous panoramic photograph of the United States.

 

Glenn was one of the Mercury Seven, they  were seven military test pilots selected by NASA as our Nations first asteonauts.  Glenn flew the Friendship 7 mission becoming the first American to orbit Earth.

 

A member of the Democratic Party, Glenn ran and was elected to the Senate, from Ohio, and served for 24 years.

 

At the age of 77 Glenn had one more mission to complete.  He was asked to examine the medical effect of an older American in space.  Glenn rode into  Earth's orbit one more time as one of seven Astronauts on the space shuttle "Discovery" for nine days.

 

John Glenn is the most famous Astronaut, he has the honor  of being  inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame.....
