This virtual cache takes you to Shore Acres State Park, one of the best, if not the best, safe locations for wave watching in the Pacific Northwest. During high surf the waves explode dramatically against the cliffs along the shore at this location. There is plenty of parking and it is only a short, flat walk to the viewing area from the parking lot. This cache requires an Oregon State Park parking pass available at the entrance gate. The current day use entry fee for this park is $5 (check website below to confirm). Be prepared for windy, cool, and possibly salty conditions. Be on the lookout for whales.
You can wave watch from the observation building or the paved viewing area outside the building. There are nearby restrooms, a gift shop, hiking trails, and a Japanese-style garden accessible from the same parking lot. There is a wonderful hike along the shore to the north and another hike to Simpson Cove to the south from the same parking lot. Do not leave the trails, be mindful of cliffs and ocean conditions, and stay behind safety barriers.
You can easily spend the day here. The area is beautiful and waves will be crashing no matter how large the surf is. Here's the link to the website for more information. Shore Acres State Park
