Geocache Description:

Construction on Rock Chapel began in 1891 by monks who lived in the nearby Carmelite monastery.  Stones from the surrounding area were joined together with mud plaster.  The walls were painted with frescoes and the ceiling with murals by two monks from France.  The Chapel was used as a retreat for the monks.  It also was a site for weddings, Easter services, and other celebrations.

1746 Smithport Lake Road

Mansfield, LA 71052

St. Joseph Catholic Church is the current caretaker of the Rock Chapel. Their office is open Monday - Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Their phone number is 318-872-1158. The gate is open from sun up to sun down. You can contact them to get a key to visit the inside of the chapel if it isn't already open.

Logging Requirements

The only requirement is to take either a picture of yourself, of a part of yourself, or of something of yours with the chapel in the background. It can be taken either outside or inside the chapel. The requirement is meant to be easy, I want people to visit this nice spot. The terrain is a 2.0 but if you are having trouble climbing the steps, you can take a picture from a distance to lower the terrain.
