I grew up in the area and always loved coming to see these rocks. Once I moved away I was always looking for them in the background of any movie or TV show that I was watching. Vasquez Rocks have been in the background of at least 66 movies, 118 TV shows, and 30 music videos.
One popular movie was the Planet of the Apes. Most cachers have heard of Project Ape caches. When this movie first came out in 2001 12 Project Ape Caches were placed around the world as a promotion for the movie. Only 2 Project Ape Caches are active today.Mission 4: Southern Bowl and Mission 9: Tunnel of Light
Vasquez Rocks, located in the high desert near Agua Dulce Springs, features 932 acres of spectacular rock formations, and a seasonal stream. The rocks’ history began in prehistoric times when the sandstone rocks were uplifted at a picturesque angle, showing their jagged red features. In 1874 Tiburcio Vasquez, one of California’s most notorious bandits, used these rocks to elude capture by law enforcement. His name has since been associated with this geologic feature. The park is a popular hiking, picnicking, and equestrian area and has been used in many hit movies, television shows and commercials. Wikipedia
