Den Norsk Slektshistorisk Foreningen er Norges eldste landsdekkende
slektsforskerforening, som ble opprettet i 1926.
Biblioteket ble opprettet i 1980 da foreningens gamle bok-
og tidsskriftsamling ble flyttet fra et kjellerlokale og diverse
privathjem til et kontor i Neuberggata i Oslo. Flyttingen til Akersgata
skjedde i 1993. Før og under flyttingen 1980 gikk en del tapt,
blant annet som følge av uregistrerte utlån og mangelfulle post-
og kontorrutiner. Sommeren 2001 flyttet foreningen ut av lokalene
i Akersgata, og hadde midlertidig tilhold i esker og kasser, før
oppussingen av nye lokaler i Ullevålsveien 1 tok til høsten/vinteren
2002. Biblioteket gjenåpnet i nye lokaler 7. januar 2003.
Sommeren 2007 flyttet foreningen til Lakkegata 19-21 på Grønland. Her
åpnet dørene til bibliotket i Slektsforskernes hus den 2. oktober
2007. Sommeren 2010 flyttet foreningen igjen, til Øvre Slottsgate 2
B – og der ser man rett over kvartalet til det gamle biblioteket i
Akersgata. Offisiell åpning av biblioteket i Øvre Slottsgate 2 B var
2. oktober 2010. I løpet av våren 2015 ble biblioteket flyttet til
nye lokaler i 3. etasje på samme adresse. Gjenåpningen av biblioteket
fant sted torsdag 7. mai 2015. Nå har vi flyttet igjen og 8 september
2018 åpnet vi i nye lokaler på Visperud i Lørenskog.
Biblioteket er åpent på lørdager og mye av de eldre bøkene i samlingen
blir digitalisert av frivillige fra FamilySearch.org
og medlemmer av

The Norwegian Genealogical Society is Norway’s oldest nationwide
genealogical society, which was created in 1926.
The library was established in 1980 when the association's old book and
journal collection was moved from a basement room and various private
homes to an office in Neuberggata in Oslo. The move to Akersgata took
place in 1993. Before and during the 1980 move, some books were lost,
partly due to unregistered lending and defective post and office
routines. In the summer of 2001, the association moved out of their
premises in Akersgata, and had temporary holdings in boxes and storage
bins, before the renovation of new premises in Ullevålsveien 1 finished
in the autumn/winter 2002. The library reopened in new premises on
January 7, 2003.
In the summer of 2007, the association moved to Lakkegata 19-21
in Grønland. Here the doors of the library opened in The House of
Genealogists on October 2, 2007. In the summer of 2010, the association
moved again, to Upper Slottsgate 2 B – and from there one could
see the old library in Akersgata. Official opening of the library in
Upper Slottsgate 2 B was October 2, 2010. During the spring of 2015,
the library was moved to new premises on the third floor at the same
address. The reopening of the library took place on Thursday, May 7,
2015. Now we have moved again and on September 8, 2018 we opened in the new
premises at Visperud in Lørenskog.
The library is open on Saturdays and much of the older books in the
collection are being digitized by volunteers from
FamilySearch.org
and
members of the society. More information about the society and its
