Hello there! Virtual caches hold a special place in my heart, so I am so excited to have the privilege of bringing you one. One neat thing about virtuals, is that their relative rarity provides an opportunity to point out a unique destination. In my opinion, the Bonneville Dam and the Bradford Island Visitors Center are definitely worth a visit.
I discovered the Bonneville Dam the way I find many locations- through the National Parks Passport program. For those of you unaware, there are dated rubber stamps at hundreds of locations across the country. You simply go to the location, stamp your book, and just like that you’ve recorded your visit to the location. I’ve been collecting these stamps for years, and just like geocaching, national park passport stamps are not just about the stamp, but even more so about being brought to awesome locations!
Important! 1) There are two Boneville Dam Visitor Centers! One on the Washington side, one on the Oregon side. This cache is on the Oregon side, and cannot be accessed by starting at the Washington side. You can only enter via Oregon. 2) The visitor center is open daily 9am to 5pm, but I urge you to check thier website and call ahead, as they sometimes close for holidays and weather occurances.
In order to log this geocache, please submit ALL of the following:
Any logs not meeting requirements 1-3 will be deleted. There is not need to email the cache owner to complete the requirements.
1- Grab the stamp! You’ll find the stamp inside the visitor’s center. While intended to be used in the national park passports, you can use anything you’d like! A postcard, a receipt at the bottom of your purse… you do you! Collect the stamp with the current date, and post a photo of the stamp with your log. Please note- The date on the stamp should be on or after the date this cache is published. Previously collected stamps don’t count.
2- Explore the visitor center! This place is really awesome with lots to see! There is even a fish viewing platform where you can watch fish migrate. In your log, tell us what your favorite thing to see or learn inside the visitor center was.
3- Check out the dam! What’s a trip to a dam without taking a good look at the dam? Take and post a photo of yourself, a member of your group, your geocaching username, and/or something geocaching related in front of any portion of the dam and post it with your log.
4- Bonus! This question is not required, but I'd love to know! If you've been collecting national park passport stamps prior to today, which passport location was your favorite and why?
