Geocache Description:

You will be visitng the homestad of Albert Payson Terhune.

Albert Payson Terhune was an established newspaperman and author of several books  in various genres—including histories (Syria from the Saddle, 1896) and thrillers (The Red Circle, 1915)—when he penned his first canine short story, His Mate.  Terhune's friend, Ray Long,  then editor for Red Book Magazine suggested he write a story about Terhune's reall-life dog Lad.  one afternoon, when Lad put his head on Long's knee after having snubbed the familiar visitor for the last year.

Terhune popularized Lad and the collie breed when he went on and wrote stories which chronicled Lad's life  through twelve short stories that were first published in several magazine. Born in 1902, the real-life Lad was an unregistered collie of unknown lineage originally owned by Terhune's father. Lad's death in 1918 was mourned by many of the story's fans, particularly children.  Subsequently, Terhune's first book was published in 1919, Lad: A Dog.

The Lad stories tended to follow a persistent formula that Terhune used throughout most of his fiction including other books about Collies. The main character was a noble, almost saintly character that could engage in battle, exact vengeance as needed, and displayed supernatural intelligence, loyalty, and understanding of the needs of his owners.  Most collie owners can relate to such marvels.

To obtain credit for this virtual cache you will visit a few locations in SunnyBank, home to Terhune's cherished estate and final resting place of his collies.

At Stage 1 (Bench):  Two questions:  What are Terune's  words on the bench? and What was the name of the dog without fault?

At Stage 2 (Champions Rock): What are the names of the dogs at Champion Rock?

At Stage 3 (Lilly Pond): What comes to the Master's gentle hand?

At Stage 4 (Lad):  What year was Lad born?

At Stage 5 (Memorial) What are the names of the dogs on the Memorial?

Final request:  Take a picture of you or  GPS or Collie at one of the stages (w/o showing the answers above)
