Diz o povo, e bem, que Arouca nasceu e cresceu à sombra destas paredes. Não destas, inicialmente, já que, no século X, o primitivo cenóbio foi construído em outro local. Como todas as terras que abraçam mosteiros, Arouca viu a sua economia, a sua agricultura, a sua gastronomia, a sua cultura e, claro, a sua religiosidade, influenciadas por tudo o que significa este edifício.
Beneditino até ao século XII, passou a acolher a ordem de Cister até finais do século XIX. Fruto de várias intervenções, o atual edifício data dos séculos XVII e XVIII, e tem para lhe mostrar espaços belíssimos, como o Claustro, o Cadeiral, a Cozinha. Abrimos-lhe a porta, com o som da chave antiga, para lhe dar a conhecer um dos mais ricos museus de Arte Sacra da Península Ibérica. É nosso convidado. Entre.
O silêncio é apenas cortado pelo correr da água na fonte, ao centro do claustro. Por aqui passavam, atarefadas, as monjas. Aqui se detinham, por vezes, em reflexão, leitura ou oração. Hoje, apenas repousam, guardadas por pedras numeradas, no mesmo sítio por onde passaram atarefadas, onde refletiram e leram, onde encontraram o silêncio, este mesmo, apenas cortado pelo correr da água na fonte.
O acesso ao local é possível de forma gratuita em evento pontuais (Recriação histórica, Feira das Colheitas,..) ou pelo acesso à visita do Museu de Arte Sacra (ter - dom - 9h30-12h ; 14h-17h).
PARA LOGAR A CACHE VIRTUAL - deverá dirigir-se às coordenadas publicadas, no meio dos claustros e tirar uma fotografia a si mesmo, com a esfera de pedra que existe no meio da fonte em fundo, que deverá ser anexada ao seu log. Alternativamente, será aceite uma fotografia no GZ, com o seu nickname, o GC da cache e a data da visita.
People say that Arouca was born and raised in the shadow of these walls. Not these walls, actually, since the early convent was built in another place, in the 10th century. Like any other land with a monastery, Arouca saw its economy, agriculture, gastronomy, culture, and of course, its religiosity influenced by the meaning of this building.

They stopped here many times to reflect, read or pray. Today, their remains lie under numbered rocks, in the same place where they used to go around, reflect and read.
