Welcome to the Manistee North Pierhead Lighthouse! This lighthouse, which was constructed in 1927, is 38 feet tall with a nine-sided eight-foot lantern atop and is currently listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. This structure is located on the 1,300-foot pier that extends from the shoreline near public parking and the beach. Interestingly, this lighthouse contains one of the four remaining catwalks located on Lake Michigan. It is owned and maintained by the City of Manistee. In 2011, the lighthouse was transferred from the Department of the Interior to the City of Manistee and the Manistee County Historical Museum. In 2016, the lighthouse was covered with a new coat of white paint. To this day, the lighthouse guides freighters and pleasure boats alike into and out of the harbor.
To log your find, you MUST post a photo of yourself, or a personal item with the lighthouse CLEARLY visible in the background. Definitely enjoy this scenic lighthouse, but please adhere to all warnings and do not go onto the pier if the weather conditions are not suitable and/or hazardous.
You can either park in the 5th Avenue beach parking lot or possibly park near the Coast Guard Station from where you can access the breakwater to reach the Manistee Lighthouse.
