Eriksberg
1969 köpte Eriksbergsvarvet en 80 meter hög bockkran. Konkurrensen på
världsmarknaden var hård, och för att få bygga de största skeppen krävdes
den bästa utrustningen. 1977–1978 byggde Eriksbergsvarvet sina två största
supertankers någonsin: NAI Superba och NAI Genova, 369 meter långa. Samtidigt
hårdnade konkurrensen i varvsindustrin. Man började prata om kris. 1979 var
varvskrisen så djup att Eriksbergsvarvet fick stänga igen.
För att få människor att se potentialen i det uttjänta industriområdet
lockades folk till Eriksberg med kultur. Mellan 1986 och 1990 hade världsartister
som Michael Jackson, U2, Rolling Stones och Madonna konserter där. Man kunde hoppa
bungyjump från bockkranen. 1990 var Eriksberg redo för nya kranar: byggkranarna.
Tjugo år senare bor 10 000 människor på Eriksberg och den gamla bockkranen är
kulturminnesmärkt.

Eriksberg
In 1969 the Eriksberg shipyard bought an 80-metre-high gantry crane. Competition
was tough in the world market and the best equipment was needed to build the biggest
ships. In 1977 to ’78 the Eriksberg shipyard built its two biggest supertankers ever:
the NAI Superba and the NAI Genova with a length of 369 metres. At the same time,
competition in the shipyard industry became even tougher. People began talking about
a crisis. In 1979 the shipyard crisis was so bad that the Eriksberg shipyard had to close.
To get people to see the potential of the former industrial area, culture was used
to attract them. Between 1986 and 1990, global artists like Michael Jackson, U2,
the Rolling Stones and Madonna gave concerts there. Visitors could bungy jump from
the gantry crane.
In 1990 Eriksberg was ready for new cranes: building cranes. Twenty years later
10,000 people were living at Eriksberg and the old gantry crane is now a listed
cultural monument.
