Geocache Description:

The Yomper

This statue is from a famous photo taken in the Falklands War to commemorate the march ( yomp') the Royal Marines did to liberate Port Stanley and all those who served with them in the South Atlantic in 1982.

The Statue was unveiled by Baroness Thatcher on the 8th July 1992.

To claim this Virtual Cache simply upload a picture with your log. Your photo must include one of the following: you, your GPS in your hand, your caching name on a piece of paper or some other identifying feature (eg a trackable), with the Big Marine in view. Logs without the requested photo will be deleted.

The buildings you see in the distance behind the statue were once the Royal Marine barracks closed in 1995 and all are now privately owned. However there is a memorial garden which remains open to the public, to pay their respects, a short walk to the North.
