Sooner or later, everything old is new again.
WNY newest attraction.
In Bennington, a two mile section of Cayuga Creek once had five covered bridges.

1. Sargent Bridge Urf Road - replaced 1929 with a concrete structure
2. Ellis-Chesbro Bridge Reilein Road 1874 - span 78 ft, destroyed by arson March 17, 1966

3. Kittsley Bridge Harris Corners Road 1885 - replaced 1928 with a concrete structure

4. Havens Bridge Coyle Road - removed 1923 when Coyle Road was rerouted
5. Mosier Bridge Schoellkopf Road 1845 - replaced in 1933 with a steel truss bridge

The replacement bridge was a Pratt through steel truss bridge purchased used from Erie County. The second bridge also deteriorated over time and was closed in 2018 after receiving an overall "poor" condition inspection report. The project analysis for the replacement bridge revealed that a new wooden covered bridge would not only be less costly than steel but it was also projected to have a longer life span.
The new covered bridge is named "The Cannon Covered Bridge" memorializing Sgt. Charles R. Cannon, a Bennington native, who fought and died in World War II.
