Orlaya Grandiflora, die Großblumige Ackerklette, Strahlen-Breitsame oder auch Großblütige Strahldolde heißt hier in Heidenheim auch die Schlossblume oder Heidenheimer Edelweiß.
Der Sage nach hat eine italienische Prinzessin zu Besuch in Heidenheim einen Strauß dieser Blumen mitgebracht. Als er nach ihrer Abreise zurückgelassen und verblüht war, warf eine Magd den Blumenstrauß über die Mauer auf den Schlossfelsen, wo er aussamte und sich verbreitete.
In manchen Jahren war der Felsen wohl von einem üppigen weißen Meer von Orlaya bedeckt. Mittlerweile wurde die Pflanze am Schlossfelsen von anderen Pflanzen verdrängt, steht auf der Liste der bedrohten Arten und wird von Pflanzenliebhabern und Naturschützern gezielt weiter gepflanzt.
Zur Erinnerung an diese schöne Geschichte wurde an diesem Ort in Heidenheim eine Schlossblume aus Edelstahl aufgestellt.

Orlaya Grandiflora, the White Laceflower is called Schlossblume or Heidenheimer Edelweiß in Heidenheim.
According to legend, an Italian princess brought a bouquet of the Orlaya with her on a visit to Heidenheim. After she left and the bouquet was wilted, a maidservant threw it over the wall onto the castle rock. There the seeds dispersed and created a sea of white flowers which covered the rock - at least from time to time.
By now the flower has been supplanted by other flora on the rock and is listed as endangered species. Some conservationists still tend to the flower and try to preserve it in guarded environments.
In remembrance of this saga, an Orlaya Grandiflora made of stainless steel has ben placed at the coordinates - with a nice view to the Schloss Hellenstein.
