De datum 5 september 1944, ook wel bekend als Dolle Dinsdag, vormt een zwarte bladzijde in de geschiedenis van Budel-Dorplein. Die dag werden er zes jonge mannen op beestachtige wijze door de Duitse SS'ers vermoord.
Vier leden van de verzetsgroep: Theo Stevens, Antoon van Putten, Jan Zandvliet en Kees Kappers hadden hun schuilplaats verlaten om een trein te saboteren in Budel-Dorplein ter hoogte van de zinkfabriek. Ze wilde een goederentrein laten ontsporen, maar door een foute spoorwissel strandde een trein met Duitse SS'ers in Budel-Dorplein.
De vier mannen hadden zich in het riet bij het Ringselven verstopt. Door verraad werden ze gevonden en op gruwelijke wijze vermoord. Op deze plek zijn later vier herinneringsbomen geplant.
De twee broers Martien en Leo Looijmans waren voor de Arbeidsinzet onder gedoken. Ze waren ook betrokken bij het verzet. Na de komst van de SS'ers zochten de broers een schuilplaats bij de Peel. Toen de rust leek wedergekeerd gingen ze terug naar het dorp. Onderweg vielen ze in handen van enkele achter gebleven SS'ers. Die brachten de broers naar de ontspoorde trein, waar later hun verminkte lichamen zijn teruggevonden.
Dit monument werd voor, en door de familie en in samenwerking met de gemeente, de heemkundekring en wapenbroeders op 4 mei 2021 onthuld. Jarenlang was er een klein monument geplaatst op het terrein van de ZINK waar 1 keer per jaar een herdenking plaats vond. Nu heeft het monument een mooie plaats in de samenleving gekregen waar iedereen een eerbetoon kan brengen aan hen die gevallen zijn tijdens de tweede wereld oorlog.
Dit monument verbind de twee plaatsen waar de moorden plaatsvonden.
1. Het spoor symboliseert de plaats waar de trein ontspoorde
2. De vier bomen de plaats nabij het Ringselven.
Het herinneringskruis komt van de plaats waar de twee gebroeders Looijmans om het leven zijn gekomen. De Zes van Dorplein kregen na de oorlog een eregraf bij de kerk van Dorplein (zie WP 2).
De Opdracht
Om de cache te mogen loggen zul je 1 verplichte en 1 niet verplichte opdracht moeten vervullen.
1. Neem eens rustig plaats bij het monument (WP1) of het eregraf (WP2) en maak een foto van jezelf of je GPS met op de achtergrond het monument of het eregraf
(dit is geen verplichting).
2. Bij het monument (WP1) zie je een opengeslagen boek liggen, er staat een “citaat uit” deze woorden en cijfers vul je in de certitude (gebruik de letters en cijfers precies zoals deze vermeld staan, zonder spaties en geen leestekens gebruiken). Wanneer je het goede antwoord hebt gebruikt, zie je dit direct.
The date 5th of September, also known as “Dolle Dinsdag – Mad Tuesday”, is a black page in the history of Budel-Dorplein. That day 6 young men where killed in a horrific way through the hands of German SS soldiers. 4 members of the resistant group: Theo Stevens, Antoon van Putten, Jan Zandvliet and Kees Kappers had left their shelter to sabotage the German train in Budel-Dorplein at the height of the ZINK factory. The 4 man wanted to derail a cargo train but through a faulty track change, the train filled with German SS soldiers stranded in Budel-Dorplein.
The 4 men hid themselves in the reed at the Ringselven. But through betrayal they where captured and killed in a horrific way. At the spot where the 4 men have lost their lives, there are now 4 trees to commemorated their fallen lives.
Two brothers Martien and Leo Looijmans had seek shelter for their “arbeidsinzet – work labour”. Both brothers where involved with the resistance. The 2 brothers waited until the peace was returned in the village. But when they tried to return to their families they where captured by the SS soldiers who where left behind. The SS Soldiers brought both brothers to the derailed train where they are murdered and left for dead. The bodies were found later on, brutally mutilated.
This monument is erected for, and with the help from the families from the 6 who left their lives in the name of freedom. This monument is also build with the help from the municipality, Local brothers in arms and the local history circle. The monument is revealed on the 4th of may 2021. For years the families had to visit once a year a small monument on the grounds of the ZINK company. But know the monument has placed on a respectful place in the heart of the community of Dorplein. Were everybody can pay their respect to the fallen 6 but also to who left their lives in the name of freedom.
This monument connects 2 places were the 6 men where murdered. 1. The train tracks symbolizes the place where the train derailed. 2. The four trees symbolizes the place at the Ringselven.
The cross is coming from the place were the brothers Looymans have lost their lives. After the war the fallen 6 each received a proper burial in a grave that commemorates their deeds on a center spot in front of the cemetery behind the church of Dorplein (WP2).
The assignment
You have to fulfil 2 tasks. Task 1 is not a must, task 2 is a must otherwise you are not allowed to log this Virtual cache.
1. 1. Take a seat at the monument (WP1) or the graves (WP2) and take a picture from yourself or your GPS with the scenery on the background (this is not a must).
2. 2. At the monument (WP1) you see a book that is opened at a certain page. And you see the words “Citaat uit” (translation= “Quote from”), use the “quote from” (letters and numbers) and use these words and ciphers to (without spaces and punctuation marks) in the certitude.
