Sugar Loaf Bluff is a distinguished landmark. Anyone who drives through the Mississippi River Valley, whether it be the Wisconsin or Minnesota side of the river, can see this icon towering over the city from miles away. A hike up sugar loaf offers rewarding views of the Mississippr River Valley and city of Winona below that most people wll never experience.
In order to log this virtual cache, you must include a picture of yourself or a personal item at the base of the rock pinnacle atop sugar loaf bluff. Your visit must be after 7/22/22. - prior visits will not be accepted. Logs that don't meet this requirment may be quietly deleted.
While people do scale the rock formation, it is not required here - just a hike to the base. It took me about 20 minutes each way on a well worn trail. While sturdy shoes would be helpful, no other special gear is required. This moderate hike should be able to be completed year-round, but wet or snow-packed conditions could add a level of difficulty.
Parking is available on the side of East Lake Blvd at N 44° 01.803 W 091° 37.510
The trailhead is a short distace away and well marked at N 44° 01.763 W 091° 37.524
