Four hours drive north of Auckland, Paihia is the gateway to the Bay of Islands. The region is steeped in history, both Maori and European, and also has many natural attractions to explore. Central on the Paihia waterfront, Maiki Hill is a great vantage point to take in the sights.

Standing here you are overlooking the wharf and helicopter pad, with views across to Waitangi to the north and Russell to the east. There are several islands in the bay in front of you.
