Geocache Description:

This is a Virtual cache. It doesn't have a physical container to find, but it does require a photo in order to log a find. Make sure you attach one of the necessary photos to your log as evidence of your visit (feel free to add any other photos if you want!). Logs that don't have one of the required photos will be deleted.

Mount Tolmie Park

This hill is traditionally known by the Songhees people as "Pkaals" (different than "Pkols", which is the traditional name for Mount Douglas to the north). In 1845, the hill was named by the Hudson's Bay Company after Dr. William Fraser Tolmie, a medical officer who served the company.

Mount Tolmie Park was first designated as a park reserve in 1891, and later grew in 1926 and 2003 to protect the summit and much of the west and north sides of the hill. The various viewpoints near the summit provide views in all directions, and the picnic tables at the summit and along Mayfair Drive are great places to have a picnic.

Logging

In order to log a find for this Virtual cache, you'll need to head to the summit of Mount Tolmie and take at least one of these two photos:

Either:

1. Stand at the Department of National Defence Post No. 94 marker located at the summit (at the posted coordinates), and take a picture of your feet with the marker

OR

2. Go to the nearby toposcope (also known as an orientation table) 7 metres to the south, and take a picture of your hand pointing to the name of one of the landmarks on it (you can choose any landmark you want)

Have fun with this! Wear clown shoes or a sparkly glove to spice things up!

You can take both pictures if you want, but the only requirement is that you take and upload at least one of them. Feel free to add any other pictures you took of the view, wildlife, flowers, or anything else interesting that you saw during your visit.

Parking is available in two paved lots and an unpaved lot at or near the summit. Access is by Mayfair Drive from either Cedar Hill X Road or Richmond Road. There are also several trails up the hill, so you can walk up if you want.
