Geocache Description:

Daylight caching only. Please park in marked visitor spaces.

Cemetery is adjacent to Mohan Hall, an infirmary for ill priests and sisters. Park in a visitor slot only please.

The Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs were founded in 1822. The first congregation of Dominican Sisters started in Kentucky where Mother Angela Sansbury, along with eight other women, responded to a call from Dominican Father Wilson for women to respond to the needs of the frontier church and teach and form an "Order of Preachers" (O.P.). Angela’s marker can be seen from the bench at the front of the cemetery.

The story of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs is told in the book "A Place of Springs".

The original cache (GC9P5MD) was placed after meeting Ruth Casper, the editor of the book. Grammi met her at church and was asked to explain geocaching to her. Permission was given to place the cache near the cemetery on the grounds where the early sisters are buried. It had been replaced 3 times as the landscaping was changed. This cache type fits the site much better.

Enjoy the serenity of the location and please be respectful of the site.
