Välkommen till Ragnhildsholmens Borgruin. En lämning från 1200-1300 talet.
Historia
Borgen på Ragnhildsholmen tillkom i syfte att skydda farleden utmed Nordre älv och den medeltida staden Kungahälla. Den har ett mycket karaktäristiskt läge på en bergknalle med branta sidor, den var tidigare omgiven av älvens vatten.
Storleken på borgen visar hur viktig staden Kungahälla var för dåtida Norge. Borgen omtalas för första gången 1257 och kom tidigt att figurera i maktkampen mellan de nordiska rikena kring sekelskiftet 1300. Sista gången borgen omnämns är 1310, i ett fredstraktat. Ungefär vid samma tid, år 1308 hade Bohus fästning börjat anläggas högre upp i älven vid greningen av Nordre- och Göta älv, vilket då var ett bättre strategiskt läge och borgen på Ragnhildsholmen förlorade då sin försvarsstrategiska roll.

Welcome to Ragnhildsholmens fortress ruin. A relic from the 12th and 13th centuries.
A brief history
The castle on Ragnhildsholmen was built in order to protect the fairway along the North River and the medieval town of Kungahälla. It has a very characteristic location on a cliff with steep sides, it was previously surrounded by river water.
The size of the castle shows how important the city of Kungahälla was for, what was then, Norway. The castle is mentioned for the first time in 1257 and came early to appear in the power struggle between the Nordic kingdoms around the turn of the century 1300. The last time the castle is mentioned is 1310, in a peace treaty. Around the same time, in 1308, Bohus Fortress had begun to be built higher upstreams at the junction of Nordre- and Göta älv, which was then a better strategic location and the castle on Ragnhildsholmen then lost its defensive strategic role.
