Geocache Description:

Lake Dora stretches nearly 6 miles long and is 3/4 of a mile wide, and covers 4,502 acres of water. The lake and the town of Mount Dora are named for Ms. Dora Ann Drawdy, a Georgian who homesteaded in the 1840s and convinced other Southerners to come to farm and grow citrus here.

The Mount Dora Lighthouse (officially named Snell’s Lighthouse) is one of only 3 freshwater lighthouses in the state of Florida. It’s located at the Port of Mount Dora on Grantham Pointe in Gilbert Park, but you’ll more commonly hear it called “Lighthouse Park.” The Mount Dora Lighthouse is one of the most beloved and famous attractions in the entire town. The unusual presence of a lighthouse on a relatively small lake instead of the ocean might cause one to question whether the Mount Dora Lighthouse is purely decorational, but it’s actually officially registered as an inland aid to navigation, and it uses its 750-watt photocell-powered light with a blue pulsator to help boaters navigate Lake Dora after dusk. This small but mighty red and white New England style lighthouse is 35 feet tall, officially opened in 1988 and cost $3000 to build.

To claim this virtual cache you will need to:

(1) Locate the plaque at the base of the lighthouse that gives the official name of the lighthouse and send to me the second line on the plaque that describes the job title of that person.  If there is a group of people, each person must send the answer, or your log(s) will be deleted. Do not post the answer in your log, even if it's encrypted.

(2) WITH YOUR LOG, include a picture of yourself or other personal item such as your gps with the lighthouse in the background.  Please do NOT post a picture of the plaque that shows the answer to the question.

While in the area, you might also want to check out the nearby boardwalk at the Palm Island park for a very pleasant walk by the lake.

Congratulations to ginjasnap and victorthevmandawson1 for the FTF on this virtual cache!
