Famed and yet unknown Portland adventurer Conrad Talmadge Elwood had a dream, but forgot it when he woke up. Still he spent a life time traveling the globe in search of the inexplicable and the freaky. Established in 1967, The Freakybuttrue Peculiarium is a one-of-a-kind Art gallery begrudgingly devoted to Elwood's blurry vision.
Visitors can discover interactive art and installations for all six senses, including novelties, gags, books, original artwork, shirts, stickers, one-of-a-kind oddities, and more, complete with edible insects and the likes. In Conrad Elwood's words, the Peculiarium is an art gallery dedicated to learning and terror.
Geocachers do not need to pay the $10 fee to visit the Peculiarium to get credit for this virtual cache. Apparently, Tuesdays are $7, instead of $10.
To get credit for this cache, you must message me the DATE when the Peculiarium was established, and you must include a photo with your log that includes you and/or your group either in front of the Peculiarium without giving away the answers or inside the Peculiarium with one of the exhibits. Your face is not required; your GPS/phone, a PG-13 body part (maybe, say, your hand), or a piece of paper with your geocaching name are all acceptable. Hint: 1967 is incorrect. Logs without pictures or with the wrong answer will be deleted. Logs or pictures that include the answer, even if encrypted, will be deleted. Bonus: please evaluate The Zombie Threat Level for that day.
When I went back after visiting a couple of years ago (I'm glad I spent the $5 and enjoyed the hour I spent there), and after I was selected to be allowed to hide this Virtual Cache, Justin and (the Manager) Julie, both geocachers, enthusiastically gave me permission to place a Portland Weird geocache - "that's kind of what we do here."
