PROOF YOU FOUND THIS VIRTUAL CACHE:
To log this cache as found, you must prove that you visited Jackson Square by doing ONE of the following:
A. THE EASY WAY
Include in/with your FOUND log a photograph of yourself in front of (or beside) one of the 18 locations listed under the Map Key on the sign found at this Virtual Cache’s coordinates. Any one of them would make a great photo spot.
or
B. THE LESS EASY WAY (for those who do not like posting photos)
If you do not want to upload a photo of yourself, then send a private message / email to the cache owner correctly answering all seven of the following questions, the answers of which can all be found on the sign at this cache’s coordinates, without having to visit any other locations in the park.
Questions:
1. What is the name of person whose statue is in the center of the Square?
2. What year was his statue erected?
3. What are the names of the three Pedestrian Only streets which surround the Square?
4. Who is allowed in the building at Map Key location #9?
5. What animal is there a statue of at Map Key location #1?
6. Add up all of the years prior to the 20th century on the sign and give the total:
7. What year was the building at Map Key location # 14 erected?
You only have to send either A or B, not both.
Failure to provide the above requested proof (either A or B) will result in your log being deleted.
WHAT IF THE GATES ARE LOCKED?:
Jackson Square is open 7 days a week, from 8am – 6pm during the winter and from 8am-7pm during Daylight Savings Time.
Jackson Square is almost always accessible to the public. However, if for any reason during your visit to Jackson Square, you find the gates locked, or the Square closed to the public (which is usually due to a major event, movie filming, or repairs), then posting a photo of yourself in front of one of the locked gates will qualify you to log this Virtual as Found. Or, if you prefer to stand on the stairs to the Moon Walk and take a more panoramic photo of yourself with Jackson Square and the Cathedral in the background behind you, that would also qualify (as well as make a nice vacation photo).
ENJOY:
There is much to explore here: History, Architecture, Great Food, Fun Shopping. Enjoy visiting the locations in and around the Square which interest you.

ABOUT JACKSON SQUARE
In the 1700s the field which eventually became known as Jackson Square was originally the Place d’Armes where the New Orleans militia would practice their military drills. After the Battle of New Orleans in 1815 the square was officially named Jackson Square in honor of the General Andrew Jackson, who had led the American forces to victory during the battle.
In 1856 a statue was erected in the Square commemorating General Andrew Jackson for saving New Orleans from capture by the British. You can read more about the Battle of New Orleans here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_New_Orleans
Many other features have been added to the Square over the years; other statues, a wrought iron fence with four beautiful gates, water fountains, palm trees, and flowers. The Square is surrounded by historic buildings and other points of interest which you will want to visit, including: the Saint Louis Cathedral, the Cabildo, the Presbytere, the Pontalba buildings, Jax Brewery, Cafe du Monde, the French Market, the Moon Walk, and of course, the Mighty Mississippi River just on the other side of the levee.
Jackson Square has long been a popular tourist attraction, as has the entire French Quarter, with its myriad of unique shops, cafes, museums, and restaurants. Three of the four streets which surround Jackson Square only allow pedestrians. On them you will find artists, singers, musicians, and magicians plying their wares or performing for tips.
In 1960 Jackson Square was declared a National Historic Landmark, for its central role in the city's history, and for being the site where in 1803 Louisiana was made United States territory after the Louisiana Purchase.
In 2012 the American Planning Association designated Jackson Square as one of the Great Public Spaces in the United States.
