Arthur's Seat is an extinct volcano which overlooks Edinburgh. At 251m high it provides an excellent panoramic view of the city and surrouding area for miles in all directions. The rocky, wild and exposed summit is just a mile from the city centre and to my mind no visit to Edinburgh is complete without a climb up to the top!
The climb up Arthur's Seat is not too demanding and should be approachable by most with the round trip likely to take less than two hours. There are well marked / trodden paths - although rocky in places with some drops away from the path and it can be slippery towards the top - so good footwear is recommended. My preference is to approach from Holyrood Palace / Dynamic Earth because that is only a short walk from the city centre - although you can also park at the bottom - see waypoint below.
How to claim a find for this cache
1) Post a photo of yourself (or if you do not want to show yourself, write your geocaching name on a piece of paper - or include your GPS in the foreground - and photograph that instead) at the top of Arthur's Seat. This can either be at the trig point, information point or overlooking the city - as below. Please just ensure that any photos do not include the information shown on top of the information point.

2) Message or e-mail me with the distance, in km, from the information point to Stirling Castle, which is just north of due west.

3) If you do not mind stating within your log, it is always interesting to know where people are visiting from....
