To celebrate the year 2000 Otford went all out!!
A scale model of the solar system was built showing the relative distances between the planets at a scale of 1mm to 4,595 km. Also, a mosaic was commissioned for the side of the village hall and this shows the history of Otford through the ages.
The Mars planet - Question#1
At the posted coordinates you will be standing at the Mars planet.
- Why is this planet different from the others and why do you think this is? To help you, consider the location.
Looking North you can see the Sun Planet. Walk to the Sun Planet and you will see (on the hemisphere) the location of the other planets. Locate the Earth Planet and this is where you will look for the information to answer Question #2.
The Earth planet - Question #2
- Your task is to project a line between the Earth and the Moon and continue it across the playing field.
- What is the first evergreen tree, 270m away on this projected line??? (It's quite big and obvious what you are looking for in your answer)
When you have answered question #2, make your way to the third set of coordinates.
N51° 18.782 E000° 11.322 - The Mosaic - Question #3
You should now be standing in front of the Otford Mosaic mural on the side of the Village Hall.
Stand in front of the vertical date "2000" with hand prints above and below it. It's on the far RHS of the mural!!!
- Your task is to find the word embellished in the brick (which is an upside-down brick) at the step in the wall. The low, red brick wall is between the pavement and the grass in front of the mosaic mural.
Please send your answers for all four questions to me via my profile email or message:
- The difference between the Mars planet and the others.
- The reason for this?
- The type of tree you discover
- The name embellished in the upside-down brick.
I will check and any logs without answers sent will automatically be deleted without further notice.
Although not compulsory, photos would be appreciated but, please, no spoilers... Please don't give anything away in them.
