Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Oregon City Arch Bridge

I've driven across the Arch Bridge many times but had never walked across it until I received this Virtual Reward. From the middle of the bridge you have a great view of Willamette Falls (The largest waterfall in the Northwestern US by volume) and the Oregon City Municipal Elevator (The only outdoor municipal elevator in the US). There are lots of things that I found interesting about the Arch Bridge while doing research for this cache.

  • Opened to the public on December 28, 1922
  • Reported construction cost was $300,000
  • Rehabilitated between July 2010 and October 2012 for $15,000,000
  • Added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 1, 2005 as Willamette River (Oregon City) Bridge (No. 357)
  • The bridge is 745 ft in length and 28 ft wide (very narrow for cars passing)
  • Stairs from the bridge deck led down to restrooms in the piers until repeated vandalism led to their closure in 1937
  • During the rehabilitation the stairway entrances, bathroom entrances, and windows in the piers were all sealed in concrete
  • It has great views and amazing history!
